The Client's Vision.
War Child is dedicated to protecting children from all forms of violence, abuse, and exploitation, as outlined in Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). With projects in South Sudan focusing on psychosocial support for war-affected children, War Child Holland sought to enhance community feedback mechanisms and raise awareness about violations of international humanitarian law. To achieve this, they approached iHub Software Consulting (iSC) to design and develop a digital solution.
The Challenge: Creating a Child-Friendly Digital Solution
War Child Holland needed a digital tool that could effectively gather feedback from children and educate community volunteers in child-friendly spaces (CFS). The solution had to be intuitive, engaging, and capable of automating attendance data collection, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process. The primary goal was to create a tool that not only served the immediate needs of War Child but also had the potential for broader adoption by other NGOs working in South Sudan.
Key Activities and Deliverables
UX Research and Usability Testing:
- Conducted extensive UX research to understand the needs and preferences of children and community volunteers in CFS.
- Performed usability testing to ensure the tool was easy to use and met the requirements of its diverse user base.
Ideation and Software Development:
- Developed innovative solutions based on feedback and research findings.
- Created a comprehensive digital tool encompassing feedback collection, learning modules for volunteers, and an automated attendance register.
Deliverables and Outcomes
Feedback Tool:
- Enabled War Child Holland to gather valuable feedback from children participating in their programs, allowing for continuous improvement and adaptation.
Learning Tool:
- Provided community volunteers in Malakal with easy-to-use educational resources, enhancing their ability to support and protect children effectively.
Attendance Register:
- Automated the data collection process for attendance, improving accuracy and efficiency in record-keeping.
Phase Two: Expanding Impact Through Collaboration
The pilot phase of the learning and feedback tool, which ran from January to May 2019, proved successful in achieving War Child Holland's objectives. The project has now entered its second phase, with other NGOs in South Sudan joining War Child Holland to form a consortium. This collective effort aims to further develop and adopt the tool, extending its impact and benefits to more communities across the region.
A Digital Solution for Child Protection.
Through our partnership with War Child Holland, we have developed a digital tool that empowers children and supports community volunteers in South Sudan. By leveraging UX research, usability testing, and innovative software development, we created a solution that addresses critical needs in child protection and community feedback. This project highlights our commitment to using technology to foster safer, more supportive environments for children affected by conflict.
